The Weitz Company and Orascom USA welcome guests to their new headquarters in downtown Des Moines

The Weitz Company and United Statesnext to Knapp properties LC and JSC propertiesheld an open day at 611 5th Avenue on June 23, 2022 – celebrating a new chapter in Downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

Des Moines, Iowa – The culmination of an extensive office refurbishment project, the open house welcomed the local community to the new headquarters of The Weitz Company and United States. The extensive office renovation project began in 2020 when Knapp Properties LC wanted to modernize the building with an anchor tenant. Weitz had several offices across monks over the 167 years of activity, most recently operating at two sites: 420 Watson Powell Jr Road and 5901 Thornton Ave.

The open house welcomed customers, employees and friends of Weitz, Knapp Propertiesand JSC Properties to view the finished space, celebrate the completion of the project, and showcase the remaining availability in this ideal Downtown Des Moines location. Throughout the open house, several employees from the three companies gave tours of the newly renovated building. Visitors had the chance to learn about the history of the historic mid-century style building and climb to the newly opened rooftop overlooking the monks skyline. Parallel to the visits, there were aperitifs served by the Des Moines Embassy Clubdecorative cookies, a massive balloon arch with a selfie station, and personalized hammers for guests to take home to commemorate the historic move of The Weitz Company.

Having cooperated with many customers here in monks on their construction projects; it was exciting to work on a building for ourselves! It is especially rewarding to bring a beautiful, underused downtown building back to life and make it our home. I am grateful to everyone who attended our open house to help us celebrate.

In the 611 5th Avenue renovation project, the project team and architect, Substance Architecture, updated the core and shell of the building and included new windows to bring back the original “ribbon” of the 1954 windows. core and shell project included 126,000 square feet of new elevators. , complete replacement of the building’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment, new fireproofing and a magnificent roof overlooking Downtown Des Moines. Besides the core and shell, The Weitz Company included 41,000 square feet of tenant enhancement pieces at their headquarters, such as polished concrete floors, exposed ceilings and raw steel elements to showcase the building’s long history and reflect The Weitz Company 167 years of history too.

The 5-storey building is located on the corner of Watson Powell Jr Way and 5th avenue in Downtown Des Moines and is opposite the Hilton Des Moines Downtowna project The Weitz Company finished in March 2018.

About The Weitz Company
