Rio Rancho close call – balloon crashes into power lines, no one injured

Roads in the area were closed for a short time

Firefighters, law enforcement and PNM responded to a balloon crash in Rio Rancho on Sunday morning. 8:00 AM THIS MORNING. OUR TEAMS HAVE BEEN DISPATCHED TO THE INTERSECTION OF RAINBOW BOULEVARD AND HADLEY ROAD FOR REPORTS OF A BALLOON ACCIDENT. A BALLOON HAD GATHERED IN A POWER LINE OVER THE ROAD. A PILOT WAS INSIDE THIS BALLOON WHEN IT HIT A POWER LINE. HAPPILY, THE GONE TO LOVE THE BASKET TOUCHED THE GROUND. SO THE ONLY OCCUPANT, THE WOMAN PILOT, WAS ABLE TO EVACUATE BEFORE OUR ARRIVAL. THERE ARE NO INJURIES. WE PROPOSED HER TREATMENT ON STAGE, BUT LUCKYLY SHE WAS NOT INJURED. WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOOD. THANKS TO PNM AND WE HAD TO BLOCK A BIG, BIG SECTION OF THIS ROAD FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES. WHILE OUR TEAMS WORKED IN THE PNM ELECTRICITY SHUTDOWN PROCESS. HOWEVER, FIRE OFFICIALS SAY THE PREVENTED BALLOON CATCHED FIRE AS PNM TEAMS WORKED TO REMOVE IT SAFELY FROM THE POWERLINE, THE BALLOON ENVELOPE ACTUALLY CATCHED FIRE, BUT OUR TEAMS WERE ABLE TO QUICKLY TURN THAT OFF. AND ALTHOUGH IT MAY HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC SITUATION, HAPPILY, EVERYTHING HAS TURNED IN OUR FAVOR TODAY. FORTUNATELY, NOBODY WAS HURT. PNM SAYS ACCIDENT CAUSED BREAKDOWN IN REGION F
