A mum suffered a horrific allergic reaction to lip fillers that saw them swell up to six times their normal size – putting her in hospital. Lauren Evens had the filler filled last Monday (April 20) but her lips started swelling an hour later and got so “huge” she rushed to A&E at the Countess of Chester that night .
The 29-year-old’s swelling became so bad she couldn’t speak and her “airway started to close” so she was rushed into intensive care and given adrenaline. The mum-of-two captured footage on TikTok that shows her lips becoming so red and swollen that she has compared them to the infamous butt of a baboon.
The video has amassed over 23,000 likes, comments and views on the platform. Now the apprentice beautician who has been filling up for four years and wants to raise awareness that such allergies can develop at any time.

Chester’s mum said: “My lips felt like a baboon’s butt. They were about six times bigger than their normal size. It was very painful. I went into anaphylactic shock. My neck started to swell , which caused my airways to close.
“They basically rushed me into ICU and injected me with adrenaline and it worked. My lips were really sore and I felt a little sick. At first I was fine in A&E. I couldn’t couldn’t close my mouth and I was struggling to speak quite a bit but then the nurses rushed me to ICU and I couldn’t really speak at all.”
The beauty lover said she would get her lip filler refilled about every six months, and topped them off with just under an ml this time around. Lauren said: “I had the lip cream and she [beautician] Did them and they were fine but about an hour later they started to swell and they got huge.
“I went to A&E and there was a huge wait. I waited about six hours and they started going down because I had an antihistamine. I fell asleep and they woke me up to give me more antihistamine and they said they were getting bigger and bigger.
“It was scary. They didn’t really say much to me and just rushed me to resus and when you think of resus and watch TV programs that’s where you rush when it puts life threatening and I was like ‘but I was walking, I’m fine. How am I like this and being rushed into this place?'”
Lauren said within four hours of the procedure her labia had grown ‘huge’ and she arrived at the hospital around 10.30pm and didn’t leave until the following afternoon. She said she was sent home with antihistamines and although the swelling took three days to subside, her lips were still sore five days later. [APR 25].
Lauren said: “I’ve had a lot of lip fillers and treatments before and I had this before about four weeks ago and I haven’t had a reaction. is produced is unexplained.Apparently, at any age and at any time, you can develop an allergy to something.
“I’m not going to get my lips filled anytime soon. I want to take the allergy test to see exactly what I’m allergic to, the thought of this happening again is very scary. I don’t know if it was the filler or the anesthetic cream.
“I get lip fillers for a confidence boost, I wouldn’t tell people not to do them if they want to do them, but I would say be careful and that’s more the fact than a allergy can occur at any time.”
